Sunday Funday DIY

Recycling Maps
After doing an exciting travel themed photo shoot with vintage suitcases, fun travel accessories, and old maps we realized our map obsession began to grow! Looking at a map can bring back many memories like a semester abroad exploring Europe or your summer break you spent with friends happy and sunkissed.  Its not just the memories that makes maps great, its the geometric-like shapes, ongoing lines, and  familiar colors that make them unique as well as perfect for creative projects!

Take a look at these links for projects and ideas to recycle your old maps and atlases, as well as links to buy hand-made map creations!

Fashion Forward Fridays...

Destination Darling.

Young and free, she knows no boundaries in this endless world.
Her next stop? Possibly Tuscany.
A stroll through the vineyard under the beaming Tuscan sun,
(thank goodness for that fedora)
or maybe a walk through the Florentine city. A place that's filled with such rich history
and not to mention, exquisite food.
Whatever she decides to do, she is always ready.
With her camera in tow, she documents
all of life's travels, ready to take on the world one country at a time.

Inspire me Wednesdays- Vintage luggage

Vintage Luggage Turned Decor

Leave your baggage behind. Unless of course your baggage happens to be adorable vintage suit cases. Today we are inspired by the travels of the past and the luggage that were once used to
lug around all of life's necessities.

Sunday Funday Sweets!

Cake Batter Rice Krispy Treats!

We found this very delicious childhood recipe for Rice Krispy Treats, with a very tasty twist...cake batter flavor!  After trying these you won't be able to go back to eating regular Rice Krispy Treats again.

Ingredients:
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 (10 oz.) bag of mini-marshmallows
  • 2/3 cup yellow cake mix or Funfetti cake mix (the dry cake mix, not prepared into a batter!)
  • 6 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 1 (1.75 oz.) container of sprinkles

Method:
Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat and add marshmallows. Stir until they begin to melt, adding in (dry) cake mix one spoonful at a time so its combined. Stir in cereal so it is completely coated with marshmallow mixture. Sprinkle in half of the sprinkles and mix. Press into a baking dish (any size will do) and top with remaining sprinkles. Let sit for about 30 minutes before cutting. Spraying a knife with nonstick spray helps to cut them.

Then cut them up and enjoy!  Using colorful pastel sprinkles makes it a great treat for Easter! Also try using different cookie cutters for cute shaped krispy treats!

Fashion Forward Fridays...

Fashion Trend Friday: sheer polka dot prints

Polka dot prints have a tendency re-emerge into our wardrobe as both a staple and a reoccurring trend.
It's a print that can be as simple and sweet as our love drops top below,
or one that draws attention from a block away.
One thing's for sure, it is a print that never fails to leave a woman feeling young and playful.
At Cottage by the Sea, we've picked our newest love drops top as our polka dot printed favorite. With its airy sheerness and flowy sleeves, our love drops top adds the perfect touch of feminine charm.

To create a look that's simple and sweet but still in trend with Spring's pop of colors, simply layer
a colored camisole underneath. A minty green or coral colored cami would be best. If you prefer a darker colored cami, then simply add on a fun pair of colored shoes!

Monday Must Have Dream Weavers!

Enchanted by dream catchers? Well we certainly are!
Captivated by its dream like appeal and its symbolic meaning, our creative team
quickly got to work on designing one of a kind hanging displays for our spring windows.
Combined with its delicate weaving and falling tiers of lace, our window displays were featured to
give both a feminine and alluring appeal.

Not only have we adorned our store windows with them,
but we've now featured our dream catcher inspired jewelry collection.
Our newest collection of dream catcher jewelry is inspired from creative jewelry designer
and Cottage by the Sea owner, Jen S. With her creative eye, Jen hand wraps real leather around the hoops of the necklaces and incorporates unique features such as feathers, shells, and real natural stones. Her use of sterling silver and 14k gold-filled chain also provides a sense of durability in all the jewelry pieces that she creates.

Shells, charms, and semi-precious stones add a unique look to each necklace!

BLOSSOMING DREAM NECKLACE, $92

LONG SIMPLE DREAM CATCHER, $79
